Steel forwarding

TSL Silesia has many years of experience in organizing transport and reloading of bulk and general cargo. The shipment of steel and steel finished products is one of the pillars of our company’s activity and we attach great importance to it. As part of our activity, we carry out reloading and transport of steel in the form of:

  • pig iron,
  • wire rod,
  • bars,
  • billets,
  • sheet metal in sheets and rolls.

An experienced team of TSL Silesia specialists organizes reloading of over 100,000 tons of steel products per month. We service goods in export, import and customs transit. We specialize in shipping steel from the East on broad-gauge wagons. Due to the different track width, in order to transport steel, it is necessary to reload steel at border crossings, which we carry out in the relation: 1520 mm wagon – 1435 mm wagon and 1520 mm wagon – truck (we also provide storage as needed).

Depending on the dimensions and weight of steel elements, the terminals use various equipment for their handling – let us bear in mind that the weight of one element is often several tons, therefore the machines for their handling must be solid and reliable.

The reloading of pig iron is most often carried out with the use of loading grapple – pig iron is a bulk cargo, relatively “light” compared to, for example, slabs or wire rod, it is taken from the wagons or loaded onto the ship with loading grapples. Long and heavy elements, such as slabs, coils and steel bars, are handled with a crane with slings attached to it or an overhead crane. Wire rod and coiled sheet can be handled with special forklifts (photo on the left). Currently, electromagnets are used for reloading of all types of steel components – these devices are mounted on cranes or overhead cranes, and the electricity flowing to them generates a strong magnetic field, thanks to which large and heavy elements can be moved.

Transport of steel to the port

Our branches most involved in the shipment of steel from the East are located at three border crossings: in Medyka, Dorohusk and Hrubieszów, and in sea ports: in Gdańsk, Gdynia, Szczecin and Świnoujście. A large part of the transported steel passes through Poland in customs transit – overloaded from wide-gauge wagons to standard-gauge wagons or trucks, it is transported to the coast, there it is loaded on a ship and continues its journey to the recipients.

The activities of TSL Silesia related to steel transshipments at border terminals and in ports include, among others on:

  • notificating and planing loadings of the wagons / trucks at the terminal,
  • making photo documentation of the reloading operations,
  • issuing the documents necessary for further steel transportation after its transshipment, on the client’s behalf,
  • issuing the port documents on loading the wagons,
  • supervising and raporting the reload of steel from the wagons / trucks on the yard / wagons / trucks in relations both indirect and direct,
  • controlling the steel unload / load in accordance with the order’s assumptions,
  • issuing the orders to the port / handling terminal for reloading the goods in relation: wagon – yard / warehouse and for loading the steel on a particular mode of transport (wagon, truck, ship) including commerce, time and financial terms

We cordially invite you to check our offer and benefit from our forwarding services in a range of transporting and transshiping of steel.
