Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism - CBAM
Border carbon price adjustment mechanism with CO2 emissions, known as CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism), came into effect on October 1, 2023, marking the beginning of a transition period lasting until December 2025. CBAM is a new instrument of the European Union’s climate policy, featuring as a carbon border tax.
One of the key elements of the system is the CBAM Transition Registry, which is designed to monitor and report carbon emissions, associated with products imported from outside the EU.
During the transition period, which runs from October 2023 to December 2025, importers must submit information on goods covered by CBAM in the form of quarterly reports. These reports must be submitted no later than one month after the end of the current quarter.

CBAM Transition Registry - A Key Element of the Mechanism
The CBAM Transition Registry is an important tool within the system, enabling companies to effectively manage the carbon emissions associated with their imports. The importance of this register lies in the collection of data on the amount of CO2 emitted by a given company in connection with the import of products covered by CBAM. This is a significant tool for controlling and reporting emissions in the long term.
As part of complying with CBAM regulations, companies are required to submit regular reports on carbon emissions. These reports should include precise information on the quantity and type of products imported, as well as data on the associated CO2 emissions. Reporting deadlines are strictly defined, requiring systematic and meticulous work by CBAM-regulated companies.
Deadlines for Submitting CBAM Reports
Under current regulations, companies covered by CBAM are required to submit reports quarterly, no later than one month after the end of the current quarter. Failure to comply with reporting deadlines may result in financial sanctions and the need to take corrective action.
