Exporting goods outside the EU | Turkey

When deciding to export goods to Turkey, it is worth bearing in mind several important issues, namely, first of all you need to familiarize yourself with customs procedures. Turkey as a country located outside the European Union, is characterized by its own specification in the case of customs law and its application in trade, that is why we have prepared some important information related to the export of goods to Turkey.

First of all, you should take care of the EORI number – it is necessary for both import and export, without it it will not be possible to carry out customs clearance in the EU – registration of the EORI number may takes from a few to several days, so it is worth taking care of it in advance.

Another document closely related to the export to Turkey ATR.1 certificate. What is this document? The ATR.1 document is issued for the export to Turkey of goods that have the customs status of the EU and are covered by the customs Union between Turkey and the EU. The document, which is the ATR.1 certificate, is also applicable for imports – it exempts from customs duties for imported products from Turkey.

Important: please note that the ATR1 certificate does not exempt the importer from the obligation to complete the customs declaration and the payment of VAT during the customs clearance of the goods.

Due to the fact that Turkey is a member of the European Customs Union, for most goods exported to Turkey the duty is zero (0%) – this does not apply to steel and coal products and agricultural products. As for sales to Turkey – to be able to benefit from the preferential VAT rate of 0%, you must obtain the IE599 export message, which is at the same time a document confirming the export of goods outside the EU, which is generated when the goods cross the border of the European Union

When deciding to export to Turkey, the documents we should also take care of are:

  • Commercial invoice,
  • Certificate of origin,
  • Certificate of conformity,
  • Material safety data sheet (MSDS),
  • Power of attorney for the Customs Agency, which is to represent us, as an exporter.

Due to the validity status of individual items, it is worth taking care of their duplicates in case of theft or loss.
